Using an image of my son napping with his infant daughter, I imagine them asleep in an ice island. Their security is frozen in a photographic time but melting from memory. Then my mind jumps to the increasing insecurity of penguins, their islands of ice are shrinking due to global warming. The security of father and daughter is overshadowed by the precarious state of our natural environment. The penguins, visible on the frozen floating ice, represent only one species threatened by global warming. Homo sapiens is also inextricably linked with this existential threat.
