Watching the multiple videos of Alex Pretti's killing was horrifying. In contrast, I also watched the video of Alex honoring a deceased vet.
I was once a nurse and worked with seriously ill pediatric patients. I know from experience the physical and emotional stamina involved with caring for ill and sometimes dying patients.
Because of my experience I knew that Alex Pretti was a man who cared deeply about people and that this administration broadcasted lies.
Yes, individuals did the killings but ultimately, it is this administration's policies which are responsible for so their deaths. Pretti, Good's killings and the many others who have been imprisoned unjustly, and killed by neglect or action must be remembered.
To contextualize my overwhelming feelings I took solace from Jo Fasano's poem. Every part of his poem is tender and this stanza stayed with me.
