This image was inspired by a photo of girl hugging her dad who was dressed as a monk. It was a Halloween snapshot. I took the girl out of costume because I saw her as representing the pure soul. Her innocence contrasts the dark, smiling monk. The fairy princess’ arm just manages to reach around the monk's arm and she is standing tippy toe to reach closer to his heart. An interesting detail is her blue band aid. The flowers are huge to distort perspective. The black forest, or Schwartwelt, was a frequent setting for the dark, uncivilized forces lurking beneath a benign surface in Grimm’s fairy tales.
